Guest FAQs

We have taken note of some of the frequently asked questions that we receive from those trying to get familiar with Savant.  If you have a question that you think should be added to FAQs, please let us know through our Suggestion Box.

What do I bring to my first meeting?

Although not required, for the most effective first meetings we recommend that you bring a copy of all recent financial statements that are pertinent to getting a financial snapshot of your current situation.  This may include quarterly statements of retirement accounts, brokerage accounts, annuities, 401(k) accounts, etc.  Also helpful are copies of trust or will documents, tax returns, and a brief listing of any current liabilities.

What is the Savant Capital approach to investing?

Savant’s approach is designed to help investors strategically maximize their assets, enhance their quality of life, and realize personal and financial goals.  Savant clients are neither speculative nor high-risk investors. Rather, each is concerned with preserving capital, growing assets, and avoiding the myriad risks that abound in today's investment environment. They understand the folly of attempting to predict short-term trends, having chosen instead to steadfastly focus on long-term planning and results. For our investment and many of our planning clients, our WW Investment Solution™ provides a disciplined and tax-efficient investment management program designed to maximize return and reduce risk. Our portfolios are built strictly with low cost no-load investment vehicles.

Is Savant a fee-only investment advisor?

Yes.  That means we work for you.  As an independent, fee-only advisor, Savant stands apart in an industry where conflicts of interest are the norm – not the exception.  Savant’s independent status allows its advisors to remain impartial with their advice.  Savant accrues no benefit from brokerage services, commissions, finder fees, or product sales of any kind.  Thus, its advisors are free to focus strictly on developing and implementing financial plans and disciplined investment strategies.

How do you charge for your services?

We provide our services on a fee-only basis.  This means that you provide our only source of income – ensuring that our services are unbiased and serve your best interests.

My bank is offering me a "free" financial plan. What is different about your financial plan?

Often times banks will offer a “free” financial plan that is designed to sell you a product.  In the long run, following these plans will cost significantly more money in investment fees.  Savant charges you directly for creating a financial plan, ensuring that your plan is unbiased and serves your interests.  We do not receive any kickbacks or other compensations from the funds we invest in – ensuring the transparency and low-cost investments demanded by today’s investors.

What is a CFA and why is that credential important?

A Chartered Financial Analyst® designee is someone who has passed three exams of extensive topic depth and variety relating to the field of finance and investments.

What is a CFP®?

A Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) is a designee who has undergone extensive studies of financial planning, insurance planning, risk management, employee benefits, investments, income tax planning, retirement planning, and estate planning.  The vast majority of all Savant’s financial advisors are CFPs or are in the process of obtaining the CFP designation.
