No one can turn on the water, flush a toilet or even shave without incurring a cost. The cost will be paid either in money or toil; by you or by someone else, now or in the future. We chuckle when we hear the story of the diner who ended up washing dishes because he could not pay for his meal. That there are costs to be borne is an important matter and should not be overlooked.

I have always looked at investors and investing with utmost amazement. My amazement is that people invest thousands of dollars, with total strangers, with almost no research, and often with no goals before having committed.

Lately there has been much ballyhoo about “too much.” A few years ago, the same ire was directed at the oil companies…They were making “too much profit.” Many folks feel that taxes are too high… after all, if God can get by on 10%, why can’t the Federal Government. Lately the discussion has centered around the wages on Wall Street.

You have likely noticed that it is no longer popular to be a broker, banker, or insurance agent. Have you seen that term on anyone’s business card in the past ten years? The term wealth has been commandeered. “Wealth management” is the term du jour for folks in the investment world and everyone has a title as a “Vice President” of something important.
